Waiting on Wednesday

Wow. That’s all I have to say about this week so far. I can’t believe this post is so late, but some pretty great things have been happening. For instance, I have been FREAKING out over not having a job this entire summer. Basically, I just kept seeing all my friends who graduated doing some great things & here I was still applying places. I had an interview about a couple weeks back & I fell in LOVE with the company.Well, it turns out that the company also fell in love with me and I got the job! Woo! I start Monday and I am both excited & incredibly nervous. On top of that, I decided to go ahead and adopt a rabbit. She’s a Flemish Giant & she lives up to her breed, she’s huge! We aren’t getting along amazingly well yet, but I have high hopes for us. Anyways, so these two things have kept me pretty occupied so far this week & I finally had a second to sit down to blog.  ( At this point I feel like you are all used to my rants about life…)

So, Waiting on Wednesday is hosted over at Breaking the Spine and each week we highlight some amazing books that have yet to come out! This week it’s all about….

The Girl from Everywhere, Heidi Heilig
Feb. 16th, 2016

Nix’s life began in Honolulu in 1868. Since then she has traveled to mythic Scandinavia, a land from the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, modern-day New York City, and many more places both real and imagined. As long as he has a map, Nix’s father can sail his ship, The Temptation, to any place, any time. But now he’s uncovered the one map he’s always sought—1868 Honolulu, before Nix’s mother died in childbirth. Nix’s life—her entire existence—is at stake. No one knows what will happen if her father changes the past. It could erase Nix’s future, her dreams, her adventures . . . her connection with the charming Persian thief, Kash, who’s been part of their crew for two years. If Nix helps her father reunite with the love of his life, it will cost her her own.

In The Girl from Everywhere, Heidi Heilig blends fantasy, history, and a modern sensibility with witty, fast-paced dialogue, breathless adventure, and enchanting romance.

I love the cover, very simple but it managed to grab my attention. I haven’t heard much about this book ( I was scrolling through 2016 releases on Goodreads & came across it) but I am really excited about it. It had me thinking how far we will go for family & what we are willing to risk (even ourselves!)  I’m a little skeptical about the romance part ( sometimes I feel like they just throw in a romance because that’s what readers expect) but I think this is going to be a good one!

What do you think? What are you excited about? Let’s chat!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted over at Breaking the Spine, where we show off some awesome new upcoming releases that we just can’t wait to read!  This week I’m talking about…

(Image is from Goodreads, just click on it to take you to the page!)
Release date: Jan 5th, 2016

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about this book & everyone seems to think it’s the next big thing! So, I cannot wait to get my hands on it! I love the fantasy elements & I hear it has one bad ass friendship! Two of my favorite things! I’ve kind of been in a reading funk, where I feel like I’m reading the same things over & over….but this seems like the kind of book that will pull me out of it.

What book are YOU excited for? Let me know! Does this seem like something you would read?

Waiting on Wednesday

Hi all! Waiting on Wednesday is hosted over at  Breaking the Spine! This post will be all about giving the spotlight to some fabulous new books that we all can’t wait to get our hands on!
( Before finding this post, I did one of my own earlier in the week, so I won’t be highlighting any of those books! If you wanna check it out, just look at my other blogposts!)

Since I don’t actually have a picture of the cover yet ( right now there is just a filler cover, but I am dying to see what it’s going to look like!) I decided to go ahead and post a adorable picture of my boyfriends dog. (If he ever sees this blog post he’s probably going to question why I didn’t put MY dog up instead of his…..Kota just wasn’t feeling the picture taking love today, had to take your doggie Wes!)  That’s the Pup that you see across the top of this post! Okay….on  to the actual important stuff, books!

What am I excited for!?
Lady Midnight, by Cassandra Clare
March 8th, 2016 ( Summary from Goodreads!)

Los Angeles. It’s been five years since the events of the Mortal Instruments when Nephilim stood poised on the brink of oblivion and Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs lost her parents. After the blood and violence she witnessed as a child, Emma has dedicated her life to to discovering exactly what it was that killed her parents and getting her revenge.

Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn. A series of murders in the city catch her attention — they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents. Could the murderer be the same person? And her attention isn’t the only one caught: someone has been murdering Downworlders as well. The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute: if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they’ll return Mark Blackthorn to his home. The catch: they have only two weeks to find the killers. Otherwise it’s open war between faeries and Nephilim.

The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them. At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she’s absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love. Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica

Why am I excited?

I have been following Cassandra Clare since the first release of her Mortal Instruments series, City of Bones. She is hands down one of my favorite YA fantasy writers & I CANNOT wait to see what happens after the ending of her last series TMI. We got a brief glimpse of the upcoming characters in Lady Midnight, when we read the final books in the TMI series. I just loved them and I am really excited to see a shift in setting. We have seen London Shadowhunters & New York Shadowhunters, but I think Los Angeles Shadowhunters are going to be even more kick ass. Plus, I’m interested to see how this love story is going to go, Clare is famous for giving us gut wrenching/heart stopping romances that make you want to curl up with your dog, cookie dough, a few hundred tissues.

What do you think? Have you read anything by Cassandra Clare? If not, what are you waiting for!? Go check it out at your local library or head on over to your favorite bookstore & grab a copy!
